This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A giant flying mammal found underground.

Giant Bats are over-sized versions of the common bat, roughly as large as a standard llama.

Giant bats can appear as mounts during a goblin siege. Groups of goblins will sometimes have an elite commander riding a giant bat into battle; other times an entire squad of goblin bat riders will siege your fortress.

Wild giant bats may be tamed and kept as pets, trained for hunting, or bred as livestock for a meat industry. While they produce less meat than other "giant" creatures, giant bat butchering returns are worth four times as much as those of common domestic animals.

Giant bats are apparently able to wield weapons and strike people with them, just like the Giant desert scorpion. This is due to them having a HUMANOID_FLIER body.

Giant bats can cause dangerously large amounts of fun when encountered by unarmed civilian dwarves.
