A huge quadrupedal dinosaur with a prominent row of plates along its back and a spiked tail. It is a herbivore but can defend itself.

Stegosaurus is a large, herbivorous extinct dinosaur from the Jurassic period, found in several temperate biomes. As with all real-world extinct creatures, its spawning depends on settings chosen during world creation. They are known for their rows of plates on their backs, as well as an arrangement of 4 spikes(called a Thagomizer) on their tails.

Stegosauruses can be very valuable to have in a fortress. They have a high pet value, are trainable for combat and have a high butchering value multiplier. Their main downside is their comparatively low clutch size, which makes it difficult to quickly obtain a large herd of them. In combat, Stegosauruses can be extremely dangerous, despite being a herbivore. Any creature that gets in its way is sure to be thagomized(yes, that is what the tail lash attack is called in the raws).

If real-world extinct creatures are set to "domesticated" during world creation, merchants may arrive with Stegosauruses pulling their wagons. A baby Stegosaurus is called a hatchling.

Admired for its back plates.
