A gigantic shark.

Megalodon sharks are colossal extinct aquatic creatures from the Cenozoic era(Specifically the Neogene period, but all Cenozoic animals are not separated into periods in Dwarf Fortress).

Its description as a "gigantic shark" is somewhat of an understatement. They are among the largest creatures in the game, with their adult size being slightly smaller than dragons and the giant rhinoceros, and more than 10 times the size of their non-extinct cousin. Given their size, they can butchered for extremely large amounts of meat with their extremely high value multiplier, though as they are not vermin, catching them requires a drowning chamber. They are found in savage waters, though they share the preference for temperate and tropical waters with the great white shark.

Baby Megalodons are known as pups

Some dwarves like megalodon for their great size.

Humans have given the Megalodon many nicknames, likely due to fear that saying its real name will cause it to appear next to the human and eat them. These include, but are not limited to:

The Meg, Megan, Megatron, Mega london, the C megalodon...
