Animals are creatures that can be utilised by a civilization in some way.
Overview[edit]
The primary characteristics of an animal are that it can be used by a civilization in at least one of the following ways:
- As a pet — this allows a creature to be tamed and is a prerequisite for further training, or use in more specific animal roles.
- As a hunting or war animal
- As a mount.
- As a pack animal.
- As a draft animal.
Many creatures are considered to be commonly domesticated, which usually ensures they are included for at least one of the above uses by dwarves, elves, and humans.
Under normal circumstances, a creature being sapient excludes it from being treated as an animal, or for other inhumane uses, by a civilization.
