Purpose
  • Make Archery range

Archery targets are used to create Archery Ranges, which are used to train Template:L. They can be built from Template:L, which requires Template:L; Template:L or Template:L, which requires Template:L; or Template:L, which requires Template:L. They can also be built from Template:L made from the above materials.

Making an Archery Range

To make an Archery Range,

  1. build one or more targets in a room/area
  2. query a constructed archery target and make a room
  3. Set the size with +/-, if multiple targets are used they should all fit into the zone.[Verify]
  4. Set the shooting direction with wasd
  5. Assign the range to the desired Template:L. Squads can then be set to sleep or train there, as well as store their individual or squad equipment, much like a Template:L.

The Template:L can then be used by Template:L dwarves to train ranged Template:L Template:L. Since Template:L are being used up by this training, it is a good idea to Template:L the dwarves to only use Template:L or Template:L bolts when training.

Notes

  • The size of the room (range) must be such that the marksdwarf is not standing adjacent to the target.
  • If you have a room underneath the targets you can channel the area on the sides of the target to save bolts (falling bolts don't break) but if you completely channel targets out recruits will stop training, as they require a straight walkable path to the target. A floor grate will NOT work. This also can be a case of futility since the dwarfs will constantly be pathing to bolts, shooting one, and pathing again. Stacks are preferred to optimize the time they are actually shooting.
  • Experience is granted per shot, not per target hit.
  • Only one dwarf can use an archery target at a time.
  • There are also 'archery' demonstrations.

Bugs

As of v0.31.11 Archery targets are functional. In order to conduct archery practice a dwarf in a squad must have a ranged weapon equipped, their squad must have ammunition [m][f] assigned, there must be bolts/arrows accessible, and the archery target must be constructed, a valid shooting orientation chosen, and the squad set to [t]rain. Do note that it is not possible to assign quivers explicitly. However, having equipment preference set to "Partial Match" do encourage them to pick up a quiver along with the assigned crossbow.
