Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.
A large Template:L, maned herbivore. They can run swiftly and many are domesticated as steeds.

Horses are Template:Ls. They are used by Template:Ls to pull Template:Ls. They can be Template:Led for Template:L and are a sensible choice for Template:L. Horses are sometimes brought along by Template:L, as Template:Ls. Template:L cannot ride horses, but Template:Ls and elves can. So far horses can be milked. Horses can be bought before embarking, but are quite expensive.

Horses also occur, very often, as wild animals in herds. They are harmless and peaceful, shying away from dwarves, but an inexperienced hunter who engages them in melee will soon find out that they are indeed much bigger than dwarves. As they give a large amount of meat and bones when butchered, and appear quite frequently and in numbers, they are ideal targets for hunting and military practice.
