A tiny larva which is prized for its milk.

Purring maggots are a type of underground vermin. They are notable for being both the only underground and the only non-grazing source of milk.

Purring maggots can be caught in animal traps baited with meat or fish. They can be found in the 2nd and 3rd cavern layers, but they aren't visible before they are caught - the only way to find out whether a cavern contains them or not is by just trying to catch some.

Each maggot can be milked about once per month (and should be assigned to a cage so that they don't clutter the farmer's workshop), and tamed maggots cannot be milked at allBug:3670.

Some dwarves absolutely detest purring maggots and will get an unhappy thought if they see one.
