This article is about an older version of DF.

The terms supplies or equipment often refer to the list of items that can be purchased in the embark screen, before embarkation and the actual game play begins.

The list is long, but most importantly includes tools, food and raw materials to help your fledgeling fortress through its first few seasons, until either it becomes self-sufficient or the first trade caravan arrives to provide additional supplies.

More specifically, you can choose to start with domestic animals, picks, axes (both a weapon and tool for a wood cutter), various stones and/or ores, wood, seeds, foodstuffs, alcohol, tanned leather hides and cloth, bags, and/or an anvil (more than one is strongly not recommended, even if possible), among other, less popular choices.

The points you spend on initial supplies come out of the same point-pool that you spend on skills. In this screen, use tab to switch between the two screens.

The term could also more generally refer to various items or stockpiles in your fortress that are for use by the population, or the items brought by trade caravans.
