Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.
A small spiny mammal with a long snout. It eats ants and termites and reproduces by laying eggs.

An echidna is a small, relatively harmless animal that curls up into a ball when threatened. Baby echidnas are called puggles.

Tamed echidnas with access to a nest box will only lay a single egg at a time, which makes them a poor choice for egg production and breeding. Their small size also makes them less useful in a meat industry than other animals (producing slightly more food on average than a cat).

In real life[edit]

The Echidna is a relative to the platypus, and they are found only in Australia and New Guinea.
