Cloth is made from carefully woven fibers made from (giant) cave spider silk thread, rope reed thread and pig tail thread. Cloth is made at a loom and by default, threads are woven into cloth by an available weaver. Cloth (or thread) may be dyed at a dyer's shop, but finished goods and clothing cannot be dyed.

Cloth is used to make bags, clothing, and ropes at a clothier's shop, and crafts at the craftdwarf's workshop. The "sew cloth image" command at a clothier's shop can be used to decorate a clothing object.

Foreign merchants, particularly elves, tend to sell decent amounts of both dyed and un-dyed cloth.
