v0.31:Easter eggs

From Dwarf Fortress Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search
This article is about an older version of DF.

This page is a list of hidden or unexpected aspects of the game - not be be confused with the phrase Hidden Fun Stuff. Though technically 'HFS' used to be used in the dev logs to refer to anything Toady didn't want us to know about until we found it ourselves, players have appropriated the name to only refer to... well, we won't spoil it for you.

Fluctuating Subtitle[edit]

When starting up the game, on the Title Screen where the player first chooses what to do, the top reads:

Slaves to Armok: God of Blood

Chapter 2: Dwarf Fortress

Histories of ...

'...' will be generated randomly each time the game is opened. The first word will always be one of the seven sins, while the second will generally be a synonym of "stubbornness", which as we all know fit the hairy little blighters like a Cave spider silk glove.

Sin "Stubbornness"-themed words
Avarice Determination
Cupidity Diligence
Gluttony Dynamism
Greed Enterprise
Jealousy Exertion
Industry
Labor
Mettle
Perseverance
Resourcefulness
Tenacity
Toil

Help Menu[edit]

Pressing the help button while already in the help menu brings up the Text Viewers help screen. It contains Practice Links, leading to the following page:

The Manual: Good Job
You have successfully navigated a text link !

Pressing the help button in the Text Viewers help screen brings up a new screen:

The Manual: Text Viewers (Again)
You have pressed the help key from the text viewer help screen. Press ESC to go back to that screen. I don't know how to explain it any better.

If you press help again, a new help screen comes up:

The Manual: Helpless or Hopeless ?
You have pressed the help key many times. You only need to press the help key once, no matter how urgent your problem may seem at the time. Press ESC to go back to the previous screen. Despite my promise to have the help key work on any screen, it doesn't work on this screen.
