Little is known about the famed pearl. Likely, Toady has not yet gotten around to fully implementing pearls yet. The creature definitions for the mussel and oyster indicate that they leave pearls, but there is no known job for harvesting them. However, an order to "decorate items with pearl/ivory" can be issued from a Craftsdwarf's workshop. Caravans from other civilizations have been reported to trade pearl crafts and items decorated with pearls.
