The ''command line'' is used for {{L|World generation|generating worlds}} quickly from the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_Prompt Command Prompt] in Windows. Use of this in Linux or Mac OSX based operating system is not yet confirmed.

==Options==

Dwarf Fortress currently offers only one command line option, a world generator.

===World Generator===

Usage of the -gen parameter allows generating worlds quickly and automatically using batch scripts, by opening a silent and introless dwarf fortress. If a region that already exists is given for the id number, the program will abort. The usage as documented by the game is as follows:

<pre>FORMAT: "Dwarf Fortress.exe" -gen <id number> <seed> <world gen param title>

EXAMPLE: "Dwarf Fortress.exe" -gen 1 3498 STANDARD

EXAMPLE: "Dwarf Fortress.exe" -gen 2 RANDOM CUSTOM6

</pre>
