The still is an important building for any Template:L settlement as it is common knowledge that no dwarf can last long without Template:L.

The still allows you to do two tasks:

Brewing Template:L requires a brewable item (most Template:L from your farms as well as most gathered plants can be used) and an empty Template:L. You can define which Template:Ls may be brewed from the Overall Status menu (z) under kitchen. Note that when making barrels for brewing, they will often be taken for use as Template:L storage instead. Thus, it may be best to wait until winter, when food production drops, to produce barrels for brewing. It may also be helpful to reserve a few barrels in the stockpiles menu (p).
