v0.31 Talk:Wood cutter

From Dwarf Fortress Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

It seems that woodcutting cannot be done as unskilled labor anymore. So if you want to cut wood, you need to put at least one point into woodcutting skill at debark. Doctorzuber 18:45, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Woodcutting is in labor preferences (p, l from the (v)iew-menu). There, go to "woodworking" (select with arrow keys, "enter" to go to submenu) and you'll see carpentry, crossbow-making, and wood cutting. I'm editing the bit about "not doable by unskilled dorfs" out. --Syndic 20:06, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
The menu you are referring to does not exist. To enable woodcutting you must go to g,b. However if the dwarf is untrained it simply doesn't exist. Under p,l I have ...

I just did a fresh embark, picked a peasant, did v-p-l, and the menu is as follows: --Quietust 20:23, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

I did the same, I see it. So it's a bug, the question is how to reproduce it. Doctorzuber 20:31, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Started a new game, I have unskilled dwarves with battleaxes available, the wood cutting labor activated and trees designated for cutting, but no tree-felling taking place.82.41.13.58 13:41, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Woodcutting now works for me after a reload and some redesignating. I'm 90% certain that the problem was because I had assigned my starting battle axe to a military unit. Though the squad was inactive, with the axe in storage, it seems this meant the axe could not be used by a wood cutter, even if wood cutter and military unit were, in point of fact, the same dwarf.82.41.13.58 05:01, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Immigrant woodcutters do arrive with axes.[edit]

Playing 31.08, I just got an immigrant woodcutter who came with an axe and was not a carpenter, and then later I got a carpenter who did not come with an axe and was not a woodcutter. --216.145.71.230 16:14, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Weapon Tokens[edit]

Wood cutting in 31.x apparently requires a weapon with the [SKILL:AXE] token. It doesn't have to be a battleaxe, but because that's the axe dwarfs can make, it usually is. If you use a modded-in weapon with this token (I made custom "saw blades" to play with) or imported weapons (like halberds) they work just as well. Even training axes work fine. Note that a battleaxe can only be assigned for either wood cutting or military use, not both at the same time. --96.227.10.169 20:45, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
