v0.31 Talk:Badger

From Dwarf Fortress Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Sorry for not knowing right format for this: Badgers seem to be resistant to dragonfire. -> Way to reproduce: mass pitting into a room with dragon; pitting animals that fight each other + badgers; wait for dragon to breath; badgers still alive. Can anybody confirm? Else pls delete this entry. :)

0.31.25 Butchered a badger sow. Returned:

meat=11 fat=11 brain=1 lungs=2 intestine=1 liver=1 tripe=1

bones=10 skull=1

skin=hide --Triggs 21:12, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
Another badger sow - identical results.
A third badger sow - identical results.--Triggs 07:21, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Odd - that's more than the reported results for a goat or a sheep, even though badgers are less than a third of the size (15,000 vs. 50,000 cubic cm). Sure it wasn't a giant badger or badger man? Of course, a giant badger should've given more, and sentients aren't butcherable... Bognor 15:11, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to ask for verification. I did a fresh download/install of Linux version 0.31.25, generated a new world, embarked in neutral benign (calm) surroundings, and hunted more badgers. Results (above) agree with the first badger sow butchered 3 July. There were no giant badgers or badger men on the units screen despite checking repeatedly; just some turkeys, pandas, deer, and black bears. Each time, I locked the butcher in a room and verified nothing else was in it except the butcher shop and a badger sow corpse. No mods have ever been made to the game.--Triggs 07:21, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the !!SCIENCE!!, and feel free to update the article. I looked through the raws to see if I could find anything anomalous, but nothing jumped out... Someone who understands them better might be able to spot something. It seems badgers and dogs both give excellent butchering returns relative to their size. Bognor 11:49, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
For some reasons, having hooves seems to disproportionately reduce the amount of meat and fat - see Bug 3357 here - http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=3357 .
