Wikipedia article

This article is about an older version of DF.

Gold is a high-value, relatively common Template:L. The only Template:L of gold is Template:L, which when mined yields gold nuggets. Gold Template:Ls can be made at a Template:L or Template:L by a dwarf with the Template:L labor activated. Gold is one of the three metals (with Template:L and Template:L) used to mint coins for the Dwarven Template:L), and has the highest value of the three.

There are several Template:Ls made from gold, and can be made at a smelter or magma smelter either from the gold bars or directly from the gold nuggets. None of the alloys have a greater material value than gold bars, but if gold nuggets (material value: 30) are smelted directly with a low-value Template:L ore (Template:L (material value: 5) or Template:L (material value: 3)), it will produce two bars of Template:L (material value: 20), for a net gain in value.

Native gold has the same Template:L as the refined metal, and so in some cases it may be advantageous to make gold crafts and furniture directly from gold nuggets rather than gold bars, since it requires no Template:L and there are no known Template:L currently associated with this method. To use native gold for furniture and the like, you should have a gold nugget Template:L close by your Template:L (native gold furniture, blocks, etc.), Template:L (native gold crafts), or Template:L (native gold mechanisms) and enable gold using the z : Stone menu. You might want to avoid other jobs that require stone until your gold furniture/crafts are complete, and then re-enable the restrictions.
