If you want to play another civ in fortress mode, you should change specific address with software like Cheat Engine before embark. You will get 7 starting dwarves as usual. Caravans and migrants may not come at all (tested with embark for goblin civ)

I found this value with static (green) address 7FF6E3016B80 (4 Bytes int) (Dwarf Fortress.exe+1C36B80) (v.0.47.05)
