Suggestion

At first I'd like to say that this is going to be awesome! ;) DF has such a strong community, we can do this!

It is really hard for non native english speaking people to learn this really awesome(!) game. So, I'm native german and currently writing a german tutorial and I would be glad to contribute this. Maybe we could add some multilanguage stuff for people all around the world. Greetings --Used 16:53, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Theme and directory suggestion

"Project Awesome needs an awesome theme (graphical, etc) to go with it. We need seasoned web graphical designer for the task if possible."

Is this a theme for the wiki, or a theme for the game that is being requested? The need for a web designer suggests the former, in which case might I also suggest that the wiki supply a themed DF download. Having a custom download for this project gives several advantages:

A tutorial world could be supplied, some tutorials have region saves that go with them and the best tutorial could be chosen and packaged into the download. A full set of backup saves could also be supplied each with a small mission from the tutorial that newbs could complete. Having a set of small goals lead to full game understanding is a very effective way to teach it.

A noob friendly init complete with font and a comprehensive creature graphics pack would go a long way towards helping new players get over their fear of bad graphics, which is the main barrier to most of my friends being persuaded to join. I have a customised set of my own which is adapted from some of those on this wiki, although the creature set is a bit out of date now and does not cover everything.

The basic utilities could also be packaged in, especially therapist which is near indipensable and maybe stonesense (assuming that is up to date). This could also include one or more batch files set up to run df and all the relevant utilities at once. Batch files can also be used to copy files from place to place so certain mods could be included with a batch that installs them and runs df, providing several versions of the game. The only one of this that would really be needed though would be an easy mode that you could run to play without invasions or megabeasts and various other things to reduce the fun in the game for people who aren't used to games with quite that much.

Obviously it might be a good idea to be careful about file size when putting all this together as we don't want to go overboard.
