:I see another advantage to this: Pipes would take a lot less processing power to stimulate than the cellular automata that is fluid. Many of my fortresses have had underwater tunnels running half the map just to supply a well, and then elaborate downfeed systems and pressure regulation chambers to feed lower-level wells from those without flooding. I've experimented with ultra-flooders that could dump so much water even onto the surface as to kill everything in a given area, but the supply systems are so huge they lag the game severely.
