This article is about an older version of DF.

Charcoal is a form of Template:L, used to power the various Template:Ls and the Template:L. It can also be used as a source of carbon in the production of Template:L. To make one Template:L of charcoal you must burn one piece of Template:L at a Template:L.

Charcoal can be used interchangeably with Template:L, but you should use coke instead of charcoal to preserve your wood supplies. Using Template:L furnaces will preserve both coke and charcoal. However, to begin the production of metal in your fort, you will need at least one bar of charcoal to begin coke production. If you wish to make a Template:L, you will need five bars of charcoal or coke to produce your first bar of steel.

Note: In custom Template:L settings (p-c-t), "coal" includes both charcoal and coke.
