My dwarfs hacked the axle controlling the pumps to pieces, and it was made of fungiwood. I wasn't paying much attention, but when the dust settled, the fungiwood was gone and there was a 'Muddy young fungiwood' a few squares from the pump's mouth. This was right next to the embark point on the side of a mountain, and it was a cave I had mined out myself. Additionally, there was a Muddy Dead Shrub nearby.

Could it be that fungiwood logs, when immersed in mud, can grow back into fungiwood? Or is there just the small chance that when water evaporates and just leaves mud fungiwood will be there?

:Once the caverns have been discovered (and sometimes they can be discovered immediately on embark, if the world generator is feeling awkward), fungiwood can grow on any tile that is marked as both muddy and subterranean, like in your self-made cave. The fungiwood growing right after you destroyed the axle sounds like coincidence. [[Special:Contributions/217.120.178.21|217.120.178.21]] 11:41, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
