I think this looks way better than the simple little [x] sort of thing. Thoughts? --JT 20:04, 31 October 2007 (EDT)

Nice the way it's reminiscent of a keyboard key. Perhaps a 2px border instead of a 1px border would make it more prominent though? Didn't want to just edit it that way since others might like it better with the current 1px border. Anyone else agree/disagree with the switch to a 2px border? --Janus 13:13, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
I like the 1px border, it looks good enough and is less intrusive. Excellent work JT! --Turgid Bolk 13:30, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
I like the 2px border, it looks more like a computer key.--Draco18s 15:14, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
I like the 1px border, it suggests what it needs to in a minimal fashion. Awesome work, by the way. --Peristarkawan 15:33, 1 November 2007 (EDT)
I like the 1px border for the reasons that Turgid Bolk and Peristarkawan stated. --Savok 19:07, 24 March 2008 (EDT)
I like both. Perhaps use the 2px one for most situations, but if it's part of a word (e.g. stockpile or whatever the key was, haven't played DF in about a year), then use the 1px version? Due to being less intrusive.

Usage

What about commands that don't share a letter with the key? I.e., which looks better:

To view buildings, use q building tasks/prefs.
To view buildings, use building tasks/prefs q.

Or...maybe it doesn't matter either way. What say ye? --Turgid Bolk 17:54, 3 November 2007 (EDT)

I think the following looks best:
To view buildings, use q to open the building tasks/prefs menu.
Or...
To view buildings, use q to open building tasks/prefs.

In this specific case, you're actually querying the building for its current status and orders, and have the option of adjusting that status and orders.

I'm a big fan of using mnemonics to teach keyboard commands in general, and while some of those choices are non-intuitive, it's helpful to others if you spend a little time figuring out a fun way to teach the command. For instance, there's a subtle difference between Looking at everything and viewing a unit which often confuses me. --RomeoFalling 22:52, 25 October 2008 (EDT)
