Prior to DF v0.31.01, the arrival of the Tax collector (along with the Baron) would signal the beginning of the Dwarven economy. Toady One has stated that the Dwarven economy may return after sweeping changes are made.  The Tax Collector would sometimes collect taxes from the dwarves. These taxes were supposed to go to the nobles, as the Tax Collector gets a happy thought for pleasing a noble when doing so. They were usually escorted by two Royal guards.

The Tax collector does not exist in this version of Dwarf Fortress.

Prior to DF v0.31.01, the arrival of the Tax collector (along with the Baron) would signal the beginning of the Dwarven economy. Toady One has stated that the Dwarven economy may return after sweeping changes are made. The Tax Collector would sometimes collect taxes from the dwarves. These taxes were supposed to go to the nobles, as the Tax Collector gets a happy thought for pleasing a noble when doing so. They were usually escorted by two Royal guards.
