Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A tiny, giggling humanoid with lacy wings.

Fairies are a type of fanciful above-ground vermin that live in good areas. They, alongside pixies, are the only intelligent vermin in the game, though they can't be interacted with on the basis of being vermin. When encountered in adventure mode, they will glow in the dark. While they possess a pet value of 10, they can't be captured with animal traps.

Despite their description, they do not actually have wings at all, let alone lacy ones (though they can still fly, even without them*). A comment in their raws implies Toady plans to eventually give them lacy wings.

(*ergo, as one might surmise, magic of some kind is afoot)

Some dwarves like fairies for their lacy wings and their babylike giggles.

Note: Wings may not function in-game.
