* In the tree tiles section, the TREE_TRUNK_* and TREE_CAP_WALL_* corner tokens are named with opposite directions than expected. For example, TREE_TRUNK_NW uses tile 201 which is ╔, while TREE_BRANCH_NW uses 217 which is ┘, and TRACK_NW uses 188 (with inverted colors) which is ╝. In-game, ╔ is used for trunk sections that connect to other trunk sections to the south and east.

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

Many of these settings are covered in detail here.

The d_init.txt file can be used to make many adjustments to the game's behavior, such as enabling autosave or changing the population limit, as well as some technical tricks to improve framerate by deactivating features like weather and temperature.

This file is located at data/init/d_init.txt within your Dwarf Fortress folder (or the.dwarffortress folder in your home directory if you installed Dwarf Fortress on Arch Linux using pacman). Changes made to this file take effect the next time the game is loaded, and apply to all worlds. The file can be edited manually or manipulated by an external launcher such as the Lazy Newb Pack.

The contents of the default d_init.txt file can be found below:
