Both pumps are on floors (not transmitting power), each has a gear assembly connected to it. The left plate connects to the top gear. The right plate connects to the bottom gear. Both plates are set for 6/7-7/7 water. One tile full of water is poured into one side. Lastly, power is applied to both gears. If the water starts on the left side:

<li> Left plate is active, top gear is disengaged, top pump is off
<li> Right plate is inactive, bottom gear is engaged, bottom pump on
<li> Water pumps to the right
<li> Bottom pump off
<li> In 100 steps, top pump turns on
<li> Water pumps to the left
<li> Top pump off
<li> In 100 steps, bottom pump turns on
<li> Repeat at step (3)

<nowiki>**</nowiki> Only tested with a door connected to the right plate: the door never closed. It may work better given the right build order. Also, connecting the door (or any short-trigger device) to the left switch could produce better results.
