It's important to actually "test" your observations before editing the wiki.  Also, if it looks like something is a ''big'' change in the paradigm, bounce it off the "discussion" page first, see what others have to say about it.  Chances are good that ''everyone'' hasn't been wrong all this time. --[[User:Albedo|Albedo]] 23:21, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Iron Ore[edit]

Either you're using a modded version of Dwarf Fortress, or you've never actually tested making mechanisms from iron ores - were you to try, you would find that they melt just as readily as any other stone. All but five stone types have default melting points - the exceptions are raw adamantine, bauxite, bituminous coal, lignite, and graphite (the first two are made magma-safe, and the other three are made flammable). --Quietust 21:07, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Misconceptions about Galena & Tetrahedrite (among others)[edit]

Fixed some misconceptions about smelting silver from galena & tetrahedrite...

Only "misconceptions" here are yours. These absolutely have a % chance for silver during smelting, and are clearly not fractionally additive, as melting is. Otherwise, you could not...
1) Get a bar of silver on your first smelting after embark
2) Get 2 (or more) bars of silver in a row
3) Have different results after a save, sometimes a bar of silver, sometimes not.
And all of those occur regularly.
It's important to actually "test" your observations before editing the wiki. Also, if it looks like something is a big change in the paradigm, bounce it off the "discussion" page first, see what others have to say about it. Chances are good that everyone hasn't been wrong all this time. --Albedo 23:21, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
